2019 Celebration of Quilts

On Sunday, June 2, 2019 the Railroad House Museum hosted an open house for our Celebration of Quilts. The museum displayed four quilts that had been carefully stored for several years. Two of the quits were made  to commemorate the nation's bicentennial in 1976: one made by Jonesboro Middle School students and staff and the other made by Girl Scout troops in Lee County. The third quilt was made to honor Lee County residents who lived to be the age of 100. The final quilt is composed of hand-pieced red-white-and-blue blocks. It was the first time our visitors were able to see these quilts on full display. The event was a huge success bringing in approximately 50 visitors in just three hours!

Growing Volunteers: Dedication to Helen Hincks
Several of our volunteers attended the unveiling of the Growing Volunteers sculpture in Deport Park on May 4, 2019. The unveiling was a dedication to the memory of Helen Hincks who served on both Downtown Sanford, Inc and the Railroad House Board. The beautiful sculpture commemorating volunteers in Sanford is located near the Railroad House museum in Deport Park.

2013 Fall Historical Tour

Dozens of folks came out on a picture perfect autumn afternoon, October 20, 2013, to participate in the Fall Historical Tour organized by the Railroad House Historical Association. Participants enjoyed educational presentations, tours and refreshments courtesy of the historic property owners and event organizers. Tour stops included Bridges' Log Cabin, the Farish-Lambeth (Garnett) house, and the Jane Barringer home. All these houses were built just before the Civil War and are among the oldest in Lee County.
